The German Alps and low Mountain Ranges
Bavaria is home to the only
high mountains in
Germany - the
Alps.
The
German low mountain ranges are distributed from the south to the northern regions (
Harz).
Particularly well known and popular are the
Black Forest, the
Bavarian Forest, the
Erzgebirge,
Thuringia Forest and the
Harz.
In all seasons the

• Alps:
Most of the
German Alps are in the state of Bavaria, with a small part towards Lake Constance - in Baden-Württemberg.
From Lake Constance to the Berchtesgadener Land, the Alps can be divided into the following mountain regions:
- Bavarian Pre-Alps area from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Kiefersfelden

It extends from the
Oberpfalz in the north along the border with the Czech Republic to the Austrian border in the south.
